Background: Who We Are

The Beginning. The site was created by Buster J. Brown (The Brown Hound) way back in 2013. Buster passed away in 2015 when he was twelve-years old, more or less. In memory of Buster, Eddie (Captain Eddie) and Chloe (Crimson Chloe) are carrying on the tradition of sharing their poetry and general musings.

Buster J. Brown is an All-American/Mixed Breed dog. He is the mostly white-colored, brown-spotted dog in the pictures. He is a terrier mix of some sort. People in the rural south might call him a “feist” dog. His size and appearance are close to what are referred to as Decker Rat Terriers or Decker Giants. Buster answers to various nicknames including: “Buster,” “Brown,” or merely “J.” His pal is Eddie.

Eddie also is an All-American/Mixed Breed dog. He is the mostly brown-colored, brindle dog in the pictures. There are strong indications that Eddie is a hound/pointer mix. His tail is naturally bobbed. Eddie’s nicknames are: “Eddie,” “Captain Eddie,” “Edz-O,” and “Ed-ster.”

Buster’s Story

I am Buster Jerry Brown. I am the white-colored, brown-spotted dog. Mister Tom named me after the legendary wild boar hunter of Mississippi, Jerry Brown. Mister Tom liked the alliterative effect of the name Buster Brown, so my name became “Buster Jerry Brown.” Most folks call me Buster or Buster J. When I get stubborn Mister Tom calls me the shiftless hound.

I found Mister Tom when he was wild boar hunting with Jerry Brown in February 2004. I was resting underneath a sticker bush thicket deep in the woods. I think I was lost. I decided to go with the people who found me because I was hungry and tired of living outside all the time. The day I was found I got fresh water and real dog food. The very next day I traveled a long, long way to a dog rescue in the north. People from the dog rescue cleaned me up and got me all healthy. I officially adopted Mister Tom after that. I am the first dog ever who adopted Mister Tom.

People ask what dog breed am I? Well, I am mostly a terrier dog of some sort. In the rural south they call me a “feist” dog. If one searches the Internet for “Decker Giant Rat Terriers” they will see pictures and videos of other dogs that look a lot like me. Mister Tom says that I am a “good boy” and that is all that matters.

I like practically all people critters I meet. I hardly bark at all which is why I have a bell on my collar. When I see some of my best people pals I will whine and cry until they say hello to me. I like doing stuff and going places with Mister Tom. Since I decided to live with Mister Tom I have always done obedience training. I like doing this because it teaches Mister Tom how to let us dogs know what he wants us to do. To show Mister Tom how smart I am I compete in dog obedience. I usually do well and I have bunches of obedience titles.

Eddie’s Story

I am Eddie. I am the brindle, mostly brown-colored dog you see in the pictures. My name at the dog rescue was Eddie and Mister Tom simply thought that I looked like an “Eddie,” whatever that means. My registered name is “Captain Eddie.” I am named after Captain Eddie Vernon Rickenbacker, the World War I flying ace and Medal of Honor recipient. Mister Tom wanted me to have a heroic name because he says I am a heroic and special fellow. My pals call me Eddie, Edz-O, or the Ed-ster. When I am stubborn Mister Tom calls me EDDIE in a low, deep voice.

I adopted Mister Tom in November 2012 after he came to visit me at the dog rescue place near his home. I came to that dog rescue from a dog rescue in Kentucky. Before I adopted Mister Tom I lived all of my life in dog rescue places. I never lived in a real home until I adopted Mister Tom. It sure is nice to live in a house in a neighborhood.

I am a mixed-breed dog of some sort. Walt, the person who taught Mister Tom how to better understand dogs, thinks I might have “coursing hound” in my mix. I am a tall, lean, deep-chested dog with long legs and a naturally bobbed tail.

I like people. Sometimes when I meet new people I am a little shy. I am getting over being shy around new people. After I meet new people and they give me pets and scratches I am quite friendly. I like sitting next to people or lying down in front of them and touching them all the time if I can. I do bark when Mister Tom goes outside with Buster and leaves me inside. The only time I bark when I am outside is when I see the evil squirrel critters. I know that squirrel critters spend a lot of time in trees so I keep a keen watch for them when I am outside. Mister Tom is teaching me the obedience stuff that Buster knows. I would rather play with my toys than do obedience stuff. I think Mister Tom knows this because we play together when we finish doing obedience stuff.

Chloe’s Story

I am Chloe. I am the long-legged, champagne-colored dog you see in the pictures. My name at the dog rescue was Chloe. It was a name I knew so Mister Tom kept it for me. My registered name is “Crimson Chloe.” My pals call me Chloe or Chloe Girl.

I adopted Mister Tom in April 2015 after he and Eddie came to visit me at an adoption event sponsored by a dog rescue place near their home. Originally, I came from a dog rescue in southern Indiana. Before that, I was a stray dog who lived outside, on my own, all the time. Now I live in my own house in a real neighborhood.

My adoption papers say smooth-coated Collie mix. I have a thin, long face like a Collie. And, like collies I have white stockings on my front feet. Mister Tom says I have a Collie bark. I am a little taller than Eddie, lean, deep-chested, and with long legs. Eddie and I both have naturally bobbed tails. Mister Tom sometimes refers to Eddie and me as “the bob-tail twins.”

I am a social butterfly. I just have to go visit and say hello when there are people around. I used to bark an awful lot until I learned the command “Chloe, no bark.” In conjunction with that, Mister Tom taught me the command, “Chloe, bark” so I bark when he wants me to. I get treats for that one! Like Eddie, I am learning obedience stuff and entering obedience competitions. Eddie and I play together all the time.
