FRIEND TO DOGS

Hi, this is Buster. One of my and Eddie’s biggest pals is Uncle John. He is the people critter who got me into the dog rescue in the north. When Uncle John first saw me in the Mississippi woods he told Mister Tom, “that’s a good dog.” He was the one who encouraged me to adopt Mister Tom. On the day Eddie adopted Mister Tom he got to meet Uncle John. We decided to write a short poem about Uncle John.

Our Uncle John to dogs is no stranger,
Thoughts eerily canine, sometimes childlike in nature.

Concerned always about our wellbeing,
Sometimes sarcastic to hide his true feelings.

Eager to hear our latest adventures,
Makes him one of our hugest backers.

Admonitions to keep us from failure,
“Buster, Eddie, don’t be slackers.”

Yet always when he meets and greets us,
We see his demeanor is genuinely joyous.

Generous with pets and an occasional scratch,
He is a pal no one can match.

OUTSIDE

Hi, this is Eddie. I am the mostly brown-colored dog.

One of our favorite places to be is OUTSIDE. Each excursion is a new adventure. Part of the thrill is anticipating what awaits. Bunnies might be in the yard. My evil squirrel nemesis could be there, too. When either Buster or I go OUTSIDE, the most difficult part is remaining in a “sit-stay” at the open door while waiting for our release word. When Buster is released he jumps onto the deck but always comes back to Mister Tom before he again releases Buster. Mister Tom is trying to teach me to do the same thing. But, once OUTSIDE I get so excited that I sometimes forget to turn around and go back to Mister Tom.

Each charge outside another chance,
To play, explore, or smell the plants.

We must make sure we check,
All places explored on our last trek.

Possibilities that something changed,
A sound, a sight, all rearranged?

And find new spots to examine,
Always ready to spring to action.

Each smell, each sound we log,
With determination called dog’d.

Mission ended hearing him grouse,
“Buster,” “Eddie” time for house!

PERFECT SPOT

Mister Tom believes that Eddie and I protect the house during the day from roving bands of evil doers intent on stealing the upholstered furniture. He believes this because often times he will find us on the upholstered furniture. He praises us for our constant vigilance. What he does not know is that we mostly snooze during the daytime when he is away. I decided to write a poem about finding the “perfect spot” to sleep.

PERFECT SPOT (Copyright 2013 by Buster J. Brown)

Much effort is expended,
For the effect intended.

Be it couch, bed, or floor,
No space to ignore.

To keep comfort in harmony,
I search quite purposefully.

Warm days searching cool spots,
Cool days warmth is sought.

Sometimes sunshine on carpet,
Or on top of a blanket.

‘Neath table or chair,
My comfort to insure.

Perfect spot once found,
Sweet dreams are my crown.

FRIENDS

Hi, this is Buster. I’m the white-colored, brown-spotted dog. Eddie and I are cheerful and friendly fellows. We think we are quite handsome, too. We like almost all the people we meet. I am not shy when I meet new people. I immediately want to go say hello. Eddie used to be shy around new people and in new places. He is doing better with all the places we take Mister Tom. Once I meet you and greet you I want to move on to greet my other pals. On the other hand, once Eddie greets someone he wants to stay with them for more pets. He likes to lean against people he meets and stay for a long time. A lot of the places we go they know our names even though they do not know Mister Tom’s name. So, we have lots of friends, and did I mention that we are handsome fellows?

Grandma, Auntie Alice, Cousin Lauren and more,
Buster Brown and Captain Eddie have pals galore.

Our cheerful demeanors, friendly faces and smiles,
Helps us make pals, endear, and beguile.

No strangers to hard times and life’s travails,
We’ll make your day shine with wags of our tails.

Our hearts are pure and we are filled with good,
We’re generous with kisses if you decide we should.
